I’d like to see LGBTQ+ characters become less of a fetish or an “ooh, this novel has gay people in it” and more of a normality. I want it to be the case that people don’t even pass comment on it. This is because the comments passed are usually, “Oh, they’re including gays because gays are underrepresented.” In the next five years, I want gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, asexual, demisexual, queer, anything characters to just be accepted as is. That’s that inclusion is. We include it until it becomes the norm.
I would also like to see more novels LGBTQ+ novels with content other than M/M. It’s by far the most represented, especially in the YA genre. It would be great to see more F/F, Ace/Aro and genderqueer/non-binary content.
